Benefits we delivered

Compared to the original building concept, our expertise delivered results including:

42% reduction in annual energy usage

55% cut in Annual carbon emissions

22% slashing of annual running cost

3.25% saving in capital spending

The Project

The new medical school is the most sustainable on the Lincoln University campus, designed to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ environmental standards, with the aspiration to be a carbon neutral development.

Yonder were commissioned to help realise the Universities aspirations by developing an zero carbon strategy that could be implemented and repeated around the campus..

What we did

Using our uniquely advanced iterative modeling approach we applied a number of measures to achieve the net-zero objective, with a focus on a passive design strategy

The design strategy lead with increasing the availability and usefulness of daylight by reconfiguring the room layouts and increasing the window widths at high level. After improving the fabric performance an air source heat pump strategy was settled to start with a building with the lowest possible energy consumption. PV offsets the bulk of the remaining, with the improved grid electric carbon factors accounting for the remaining.
