Benefits we delivered
Compared to the original building concept, our expertise delivered results including:
36% reduction in annual energy usage
32% cut in yearly carbon emissions
30% slashing of annual running cost
2.5% saving in capital spending
32% lowering of capital outlay on the roof-based solar panels, that absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity, needed to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
The Project
EnviroVent is a leading manufacturer and supplier of whole house ventilation systems and extractor fans for bathrooms and kitchens. Established in 1987, the company has helped millions of homes across the UK permanently solve damp, condensation, and mold problems.
In 2020, the company decided to commission a new headquarters in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and specified this should achieve net-zero carbon emissions. Our brief, as building physics consultants to Envirovent was to recommend measures that would achieve this.
What we did
We used our uniquely advanced iterative modeling approach and applied our huge expertise in the passive design-first approach, to achieve the net-zero objective.
We established the feasibility of all the measures we were to propose, through our usual rigorous modeling and testing process. We then recommended passive design steps including incorporating mixed mode ventilation and five different kinds of fabric improvement. Our active design proposals featured four types of lighting upgrades, plus improvements to roof-lighting and warehouse heating.
